Commuter corridor, gateway to downtown, neighborhood retail area - all of these descriptions apply to the 1.5 mile stretch known as East Main Street. Addressing the multiple, potentially conflicting functions of this densely developed corridor required a coordination of urban design, land use, traffic and market expertise. TPA balanced these functions through a workable plan that addresses public sector, property owner and resident goals to create a more pedestrian friendly environment. Prime redevelopment areas were identified. Cross sections depicting various roadway alternatives and computer simulated photographs were used to illustrate potential improvements.
