In one of the first pilot studies sponsored by EPA, TPA explored ways of redeveloping urban industrial areas. Three industrial corridors in Bridgeport were examined to identify vacant, abandoned or underutilized properties. The feasibility of utilizing the sites was examined from a developers’ perspective and criteria reflecting physical, economic and environmental factors were created. A 30-member task force reviewed the sites and chose six for further study. Redevelopment strategies were created including an assessment of the best use, remediation estimates, potential market value, and jobs to be created. This information enabled the City to solicit private developer interest.
