SOUTH CENTRAL REMEDIATION PROJECT
South Central Connecticut
Because of age and past uses, many sites throughout the Greater New Haven region are perceived as having extensive environmental contamination. Liability concerns make owners unwilling to find out what on-site conditions really were, leaving the region with virtually no marketable sites to offer to potential developers. Working with the South Central Regional Council of Governments, TPA conceived the South Central Remediation Project and prepared the application, which gained funding through the Connecticut Department of Community and Economic Development. The $500,000 program was administered by TPA on behalf of the Regional Growth Partnership, which provides grants or loans for the completion of environmental site assessments to characterize site conditions and identify the magnitude of clean-up/remediation.
