Bristol Housing Authority Goes Solar

When energy firm 64 Solar evaluated the possibility of adding solar panels to an existing apartment building managed by the Bristol Housing Authority, it realized that it could not support the project without significant structural work. However, the surrounding site could house a ground-mount installation with some careful clearing of the overgrowth and invasive plants.

TPA provided comprehensive services including survey and site design, Inland Wetlands and Planning, and Zoning Board approvals, for the installation of over 400 solar panels. Design required close coordination between the wetland scientist and land surveyor to accurately denote the locations of on-site wetlands as well as with 64 Solar to determine the optimal placement of panel arrays in the space available.

Upon completion in February 2017, the system now supplies 124 kW of power for the adjacent Housing Authority property. Financing for the project was provided by the Connecticut Green Bank.
